General practice is facing unprecedented challenges and is generally agreed to be ‘in crisis’:
- Surgery workload has continued to rise and GP staffing has worsened. This is reducing job satisfaction, creating work/life balance and sustainability issues for many partners, and means recruitment can be challenging.
- There is rising bureaucracy e.g. CQC.
- GPs have inadequate headroom to innovate.
- There are partner succession issues, especially around estates.
Locally we are already seeing clear signs of sustainability issues for some practices, but there is no coherent local or national policy to address this crisis.
Suffolk GP Federation works with its member practices and other health and social care providers to address these issues.
