Community Sexual Assault Service
Who do we support?
We provide support to individuals after sexual assault, no matter when it happened. We provide support to anyone who has experienced any form of sexual violence or assault.
Sexual violence is defined as any sexual act or activity that is committed, threatened, or attempted without the consent of the person. But what is consent? Consent to any sexual activity is where a person chooses to engage in the activity freely by choice and has the capacity to make those decisions.
Some examples of sexual violence may include but are not limited to:
- Rape
- Sexual assault
- Childhood sexual abuse
- Imaged based abuse (also known as revenge porn)
- Attempted crimes of sexual violence
- Rape within marriage
- ‘Honor based’ violence
- Unwanted sexual touch/sexual comments
- Sexual Harassment /Catcalling
- Spiking related sexual violence
We also support those close to someone who has been assaulted, to help them process their emotions and learn how they can best support the person they care for.
- We support all genders
- We support all ages
We support you with an individualised plan to build resilience and progress recovery.
You will be assigned an Advocate who will work with you to create your recovery plan. Plans may include:
- Signposting or referral to agencies best equipped to assist your specific needs
- One to one support with the Advocate who will offer practical and emotional support based on an assessment of your holistic needs
- Peer groups
- Wellbeing programmes
- Recovery & Resilience programmes
- All can be accessed in person or online
Where will I access in person support?
We support you in the way that meets your needs best. We can meet you wherever you are in Suffolk, or support remotely if you prefer.
What do we not offer?
- We do not provide therapy or counselling. If this is identified as a benefit to you, we will refer you to partner agencies
- We do not provide advice on the Criminal Justice Process. We will refer you to the Suffolk ISVA service for this
- We do not provide forensic capture. We will advise attendance at the SARC if the assault is recent and within the forensic window
You are able to still access our support alongside accessing any service we may refer you to.
